The following are answers to some questions we have received. In order to save time, please review prior to support request.
After making changes in the Trade, Equipment and Crew tables, my estimate and assembly files are not updated. Reason: Not doing the 'Update Cost Table' first. Solution: Changes in Trade, Equipment and Crew tables do not automatically reflect in the Cost Table. Therefore, whenever you make changes in these tables, invoke Utilities > Update > Cost Table in order to update the Cost table.
When adding an item to estimate using Lookup, I cannot export more than one item at a time. Reason: Not using the 'Multi' button on the Edit toolbar. Solution: Using the 'Multi' button you can select and export several items at the same time. Shift-select will allow you to select multiple items. Ctrl-select will allow you to select blocks of items.
Update, Cancel and Close buttons do not show on my screen. Reason: Your computer's Windows display setting is set for a scheme that is not supported. Solution: After closing Visual Estimator, change Windows display setting: Start > Settings > Control Panel. Then select Display. Select ‘Appearance’ tab then select the following from the Scheme dropdown: Windows Standard Click OK. When Visual Estimator is started again, all buttons will be there.
We like your built-in reports, but we have additional in-house formats. What can we do? Solution: Using Crystal Reports you can easily read data and create custom reports. Or, you can use our custom programming service so we can do it for you.
We use Excel, Word and other programs to present our bids. How can we read Visual Estimator reports with these programs? Solution: Visual Estimator has a wealth of export formats for reporting. Just click on the Export button of the report screen and select your format and destination. These include Excel, Word and other popular programs.
After a quantity takeoff, PlanTakeoff does not seem to adjust for waste factor. Reason: No, it does not adjust automatically. We designed it as such because waste factors are different for different materials. Just use one of the available registers, such as Multi1, to adjust for waste factor. Enter 1.15 if you want the takeoff to be adjusted up by 15%.
The adjustment registers do not follow computations with the listed sequence. Reason: Plan Takeoff adjust registers apply entries immediately. So, there is no list sequence. No matter where on the list, the first entry you made is applied first, last entry last.
I use the trial version of your Excel-based Estimator. What additional features will I get if I register? First, the time restriction is removed. We update cost data regularly. We also update and improve the program frequently. When registered, we will email you the link for the latest version immediately so you benefit from the latest improvements. Also, with registration, you get full access to data worksheets for viewing and modifications.
I am a registered user, but I cannot access programming modules. You are not supposed to. All data worksheets are available to registered users for modifications. However, programming modules are not.

Can I distribute the estimator file to
others in my organization?
I use GeneralCOST Estimator. When I insert cost items in my database should I also add a costcode? This is not necessary but highly recommended. Because, with an attached costcode, the cost item may be sorted and uniquely defined.
With RemodelCOST Estimator, how can I customize the "Quote" report that goes to my client? There are 2 ways. One is to edit the source data in the "Quote" worksheet. You may edit cells highlighted in yellow. The second way is to edit the final report. After edits, simply print on printer and send to your client.
When I open the estimator, Excel says macros which may contain viruses. What should I do? Because we guarantee virus free downloads, you should click on "Enable Macros" ( or Enable This Content" button and proceed with a peace of mind. Because our estimators have a lot of code (macros) built-in, if you disable macros, then you will not be able to run the estimator successfully.
I want to rename tab labels to reflect my industry. How can I do that? RemodelCOST Estimator, RepairCOST Estimator and GeneralCOST Estimator will allow you to rename cost category tabs. Be sure not to have spaces in the labels. Also, you may not delete tabs or add new tabs.
